    LAS VEGAS - The Fresno State volleyball team lost a tough battle against UNLV on Friday night in the Cox Pavilion. The Bulldogs (16-13, 7-7 MW) fought hard to the end, but fell to the Rebels in three close sets (17-25, 21-25, 22-25).

    The Bulldog offense was guided by middle blockers Lauren Albertson and Maci Murdock, who combined for 18 kills. Albertson hit a team-high .429 against the Rebels and recorded 10 kills. It is the fifth match this year that Albertson has recorded 10 or more kills. It is also the fourth time the junior has hit .400 or better in match. Albertson also added two blocks for the Bulldogs, which was also a team-high.

    Murdock added eight kills and two blocks on the night. She is averaging a team best 0.88 blocks per set and leads the team hitting .325 on the year with 2.4 kills per set.

    Outside hitter Korrin Wild served up an opening 4-0 run, which included her 51st ace of the season moving her to seventh in the top 10 season records. Wild is ninth in the nation in aces per set with 0.46. The junior tallied a team best 15 kills against the Rebels on Friday night.

    The opening set was tied 6-6 before a 5-1 run by the Rebels allowed UNLV to gain an 11-7 lead. Back-to-back kills from Wild kept the `Dogs alive in the first set trailing the Rebels 23-16. UNLV scored two unanswered points taking the first set 25-17 and an early 1-0 lead.

    In the second set, the Bulldogs had a 3-0 run cutting the Rebels lead to a one-point advantage. UNLV recorded the side out and answered with a 4-1 run increasing their lead to 9-5 in the second set. The `Dogs came within three points of the Rebels before their run was cut short with a side out from UNLV.

     

     

    Each time Fresno State began to gain momentum, the Rebels found a way to halt the Bulldogs come back. The `Dogs continued to fight in the second set trailing 18-13. A service error by the Rebels brought the Bulldogs within four points late in the second set. A 4-0 run by Fresno State chipped away at UNLV's lead as the Bulldogs trailed 22-20. The Rebels cut the Bulldogs come back short and closed out the second set with a 3-0 run winning 25-21.

    The Bulldogs came out of the break on fire. The third set remained tied until a 5-1 run from the Bulldogs gave them their first lead of the set 13-9. The Rebels answered by tying the set back up at 13 points each. The final set was tied 13 times and had six lead changes.

    Late in the third set, the Rebels broke a 17-17 tie with a quick 3-0 run to take the lead. The Rebels held on to win the final set 25-22 pulling off the 3-0 win over the Bulldogs.

    Fresno State closes out the 2012 season at the Save Mart Center on Nov. 21 against Air Force and Nov. 23 against Boise State.
