COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Academic success continued to stream Fresno State's way as the athletic department celebrated Tuesday's annual MW Scholar-Athlete announcement by the conference office.

Altogether, 50 Bulldogs received acclaim after maintaining 3.5 cumulative grade point averages and completing at least two academic terms.

The Bulldog soccer and volleyball teams led the way with six and five honorees, respectively.

    Twelve other Fresno State teams boasted Scholar-Athlete recipients, and those tallies follow - women's basketball (5), baseball (4), women's cross country, (4), football (4), men's track and field (4), women's tennis (4), softball (3), swimming and diving (3), women's track and field (3), women's golf (2), men's tennis (2) and men's golf (1).

Among those teams, the combined list of Bulldog honorees included 14 seniors, 15 juniors, 18 sophomores and three freshmen.

Last year, the Bulldogs featured 71 recipients in their first season in the Mountain West.

Not included in this season's count were four lacrosse players who were All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Scholar-Athlete honorees and sported +3.5 GPA's - Meghan Macaulay, Jordyn Frew, Marcy Levatino and Meganne Weissenfels.

Overall for the 2013-14 academic year, a total number of 651 student-athletes from 12 MW member institutions were honored - a new league record that bettered the 632 spring semester honorees from the 2012-13 academic year.

In other conference news earlier this week, 86 Bulldogs received Academic All-MW honors among Fresno State's 12 winter and spring sports.

Adding that total to its 43 fall honorees, Fresno State sported 129 combined honors in 2013-14. For comparison's sake, the `Dogs also topped the century plateau in 2012-13 (122), and likewise on Academic All-WAC lists in 2011-12 (142), 2010-11 (132) and 2009-10 (142).

To be eligible for MW All-Academic selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

Not included in this season's Academic All-MW count were seven lacrosse players who sported +3.0 GPA's.
