FRESNO, Calif. - Looking ahead to its first home exhibition this Saturday, the Fresno State volleyball team was picked sixth by Mountain West head coaches in the annual preseason poll released Tuesday.

Coming off a fourth-place finish and 9-7 conference mark in 2012, the Bulldogs received 65 votes and were within five votes of the three teams just ahead - UNLV (third, 70), Utah State (fourth, 68) and New Mexico (fifth, 66).

Last year's conference regular season co-champions San Diego State (first, 99) and Colorado State (second, 90) led the 11-team poll. The Aztecs received nine of the 11 first-place votes, and the Rams picked up the other two.

Other conference teams included Boise State (seventh, 51), Wyoming (eighth, 37), San José State (ninth, 27), Air Force (10th, 17) and Nevada (11th, 15)

On the individual side, Fresno State senior Korrin Wild was one of three outside hitters tabbed to the seven-person All-MW Preseason Team.

The Kingsburg, Calif., native was an all-conference second-team choice as a sophomore, and led the team as a junior in double-doubles (14), kills (3.40 per set) and aces (0.44 p/s).

On the national charts in 2012, she ranked 12th nationally in aces, and tops in the Mountain West, and also stood top six in the conference in points (fourth, 3.99 p/s) and kills (sixth).

San Diego State setter Johnna Fouch was selected as the MW Preseason Player of the Year, and other preseason all-league picks included Deedra Foss (setter, Colorado State), Chantale Riddle (opposite side hitter, New Mexico), Raegan Shelton (outside hitter, SDSU), Madeline Westman (middle blocker, UNLV) and Miguella Lovato (libero, New Mexico).

Returning for her sixth season at the helm, head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell looks forward to one of her deepest teams.

"We're excited to head into our second season in the MW with five seniors who are battle-tested," Netherby-Sewell said. "All our returnees have a done a good job of integrating the newcomers into our culture of hard-work, vigor and fighting spirit. I like our chances to do even better in the conference than last year. However, the main focus is to get better everyday, compete hard and give a great effort. The results will take care of themselves."

Wild is one of six Bulldog starters back from the 2012 team that went 18-13 overall. She is joined by senior middle blocker Lauren Albertson and outside hitter Marissa Brand, right side hitter Megan Callahan, junior libero Christina Lee and middle blocker Maci Murdock.

Other returning Bulldog veterans include junior right side Katie Pearson and outside hitter Jaimee-Lee Morrow, and sophomore middle blocker Molly Pearson and outside hitter Zana Bowens.

The team welcomes four newcomers in senior transfer and right side hitter Holly Franks (Cal Poly), junior transfer and setter Cori Ehmen (Iowa Western Community College), and freshman setter Brooke Legaux (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and defensive specialist Maggie Eppright (San Luis Obispo, Calif.).

Fresno State fans will get their first glimpse of this year's squad in this Saturday's exhibition vs. various Bulldog alumni. The event starts at noon at the Save Mart Center, and offers free admission to fans.

Next week, the program officially opens the season by hosting the Bulldog Invitational Presented by Deli Delicious. The `Dogs first host Rice at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 30, then face Santa Clara and Cal State Northridge on Saturday, Aug. 31 at noon and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
