Fresno State volleyball hits the road for the second weekend in a row to play in the Omni Hotels Colorado Tournament.

FRESNO, Calif. -
For the second-straight week, the Fresno State volleyball team hits the road for a non-conference tournament. The Bulldogs are participating in the Omni Hotels Colorado Tournament with Colorado, Northern Arizona and Cornell. The `Dogs begin tournament action on Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.
Fresno State vs. Cornell
The Bulldogs and Big Red have met only once and the `Dogs lead the series 1-0. The first meeting was in 1997.
Scouting the Big Red
Cornell's first match of the 2012 season is against the Bulldogs. The Big Red did not play in the first week of competition due to Ivy League restrictions. Cornell finished the 2011 season 5-21 and 3-11 in conference. Returning for the Big Red, is outside hitter Kelly Marble, who recorded 2.52 kills and 1.61 digs per set last season.
Netherby-Sewell Earns 50th Win at Fresno State
Fresno State opened the 2012 season with a win over UTEP, 3-2. The win is the 50th win for head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell, who took over the Bulldog volleyball program in 2008. Netherby-Sewell's record at Fresno State is 51-67.
Fresno State Leading the Pack
After the first week of the season, the Bulldogs are among the top 5 in several statistical categories. Senior Barbara Alcantara leads the conference with 11.2 assists per set. She has a total of 123 assists on the season. The Bulldogs are 1-2 in service aces. Junior Korrin Wild leads the pack with .64 aces, a total of seven on the year. Freshman Zana Bowens is second with .55 aces per set and a total of six service aces. Sophomore Maci Murdock is fifth in blocks with 1.45 per set. Redshirt junior Marissa Brand is fifth in kills per set after averaging 3.8 last weekend.
Road Warriors in 2012
The Bulldogs play their first six matches of the 2012 season on the road and a total of 18 matches away from the Save Mart Center. The `Dogs are 2-1 on the road and 1-1 in neutral territory. Fresno State next heads to Colorado for the first of three trips to the Centennial State.
Murdock and Wild Earn All-Tournament Honors
Sophomore Maci Murdock and junior Korrin Wild were named to the El Paso Sport Commission Invite All-Tournament team. The Bulldogs went 2-1 in the tournament. Wild opened the season recording 35 kills total. She had 15 kills against Idaho State and hit .458. Murdock recorded a total of 16 blocks and 20 kills on the weekend. She hit .429 against UTEP and .538 against Idaho State.
Return of Brand
Redshirt junior Marissa Brand made her first start on Aug. 24 since suffering a season ending injury at the beginning of the 2011 season. The outside hitter recorded 21 kills in her first match back, which is two shy of her career best mark of 23. She leads the team with 3.8 kills per set with a total of 42 kills on the season. Brand is hitting .205. She also has 2.45 digs per set . In all three matches last weekend, Brand was a dig shy of recording a double-double.
Callahan Controls the Right Side
Junior Megan Callahan is hitting .367 to start her third season as a Bulldog. She is averaging 2.5 kills per set and has a total of 28 kills on the season. Callahan hit over .400 in two matches at the El Paso Sports Commission Invite. She hit .423 against UTEP and .438 against Idaho State.
Bowens Dazzles in Debut
Zana Bowens is the lone freshman on the Bulldog roster this season. She has played in all 11 sets so far this year. Bowens is averaging 1.4 digs per set and is second in the conference in aces per set behind fellow Bulldog Korrin Wild. She recorded six service aces for .55 per set.
