FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team returns to the Save Mart Center Nov. 1-3 hosting Nevada and San Diego State. The Bulldogs, which have an RPI of 53 this week, face the Wolf Pack on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and the Aztecs on Nov. 3 at noon. Both matches will be broadcasted on 790 ESPN.
Fresno State vs. Nevada
The Bulldogs swept the Wolf Pack in three sets in the first meeting of the season in Reno, Nev. Marissa Brand and Megan Callahan led the offense with 14 kills each. The 'Dogs lead the series 21-20 after the win earlier this season over the Wolf Pack. Fresno State has won the past three matches.
Scouting the Wolf Pack
Nevada has a 1-9 league mark and is ninth in the Mountain West standings. The Wolf Pack has an overall record of 4-19. Tessa Lea'ea leads Nevada with 3.1 kills per set and is hitting .255 with 1.4 blocks per set. Defensively, the Wolf Pack is led by Kelly Chang, who is averaging 3.0 digs per set. Nevada is averaging 11.0 kills, 12.8 digs, 10.1 assists and 2.3 blocks per set.
Fresno State vs. San Diego State
The Aztecs won the first match up 3-2 in their home court in San Diego, Calif. Maci Murdock hit a match-high .565 with 15 kills against SDSU. San Diego State increased its series lead 23-9 over the Bulldogs with its win earlier this season.
Scouting the Aztecs
San Diego State is tied with Colorado State for second place in the Mountain West standings with a 7-3 record. The Aztecs have an overall mark of 16-7. The Aztecs offense is led by Raegan Shelton, who averages 3.1 kills per set and is hitting .222. Emily Harris leads the team with 1.3 blocks per set. Defensively, SDSU is led by Kristi Jackels, who has 4.0 digs per set. San Diego State is averaging 13.7 kills, 12.5 assists, 14.4 digs and 2.5 blocks per set.
Alcantara Sets Up Bulldogs
Senior Barbara Alcantara leads the conference and is 20th in the country with 11.3 assists per set. The setter has a total of 1,046 sets on the season. Alcantara recorded a career-high 65 assists against Wyoming. The Brazilian native also has 2.2 digs per set.
Wild Serving Up Aces
Junior Korrin Wild leads the conference and is 20th in the nation in aces per set with 0.42. She has a total of 39 on the year. The outside hitter needs four more to break into the top 10 season records. Wild has a total of 90 service aces in her career and needs 13 more to break into the top 10 career records. She recorded a career- high five aces earlier this season against UTEP.
