Volleyball Looking to Set All-Time Attendance Mark at Save Mart Center
Nov. 4, 2003 FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team will get a bigger stage this week when the Bulldogs host 2002 National Semifinalist and second-ranked Hawai'i at the Save Mart Center (16,116) on Sun., Nov. 9, 12:00 p.m. Being the first true athletic competition in the Save Mart Center, the volleyball team will follow the lead of the Bulldog Basketball Extravaganza (Nov. 5) and concerts by Andrea Bocelli (Nov. 7) and Elton John (Nov. 8) as the first week of Grand Opening activities. All ticket prices as well as season-ticket and seat-option holder benefits will remain the same for the Fresno State-Hawai'i volleyball match while parking will require a $3.00 charge. The $100+ million Save Mart Center has the distinction of being the largest, privately funded project in the history of the California State University system. After turning away fans last year as nearly 1,400 packed the standing-room only North Gym last November, the Fresno State Athletics Department announced a new venue and a new date last month as the Bulldogs push for another postseason appearance. The Bulldog volleyball team, which is 18-5 on the year and has received national votes in six of the 10 USA Today/AVCA Coaches Top 25 polls, is in the middle of a four-match homestand. Fresno State will host San Jose State on Thur., Nov. 6, 7:00 p.m., before entertaining No. 2 Hawai'i at the Save Mart Center on Sun., Nov. 9, 12:00 p.m.
