Volleyball Team Enjoys Day with Kids
Nov. 13, 2011
FRESNO, Calif. - Just a few hours after the Bulldogs wrapped up conference play with a thrilling 3-2 win over Utah State, the Fresno State volleyball team took a drive up to Children's Hospital Central California to spend the day with some of the young patients.
"Going to Children's Hospital today was really fun because we got to make the children laugh and smile," freshman libero Christina Lee said. "It feels great to know that we brightened their day and made them happy."
The joy spread across everyone's faces all day as some played outdoor basketball and the team shared insights into the life of a Bulldog.
The opportunity allowed the 'Dogs to get to patients and families of all ages and backgrounds, and the team handed out homemade pillow cases to the children.
"This experience was very rewarding," freshman Molly Pearson said. "I was able to teach a girl some new card games that's she'll be able to play later on."
Throughout the day, the team spent time with patients in the playroom where they colored Thanksgiving pictures and played card and video games. They also got to play with the dolls and cars and create a jumbo game of Candyland.
"Coming to Children's Hospital was a great experience," sophomore Kristen Sciacca said. "I got to apply what I'm learning in school by speaking Spanish to several children who didn't understand English."
In addition to their competition, class and practice schedules, the team regularly makes time for similar volunteer opportunities in the San Joaquin Valley.
