The first ever FSU three-time national, only the 40th wrestler in history to win three consecutive national championships…was ranked #1 nationally in his division on a consistent bases…four time All-American and only the second bulldog ever to be a four-time All-American…two-time WAC Champion…two-time west regional champion…completed two perfect seasons by going 35-0 as a senior and 34-0 as a junior…won 95 consecutive total matches and 106 consecutive matches in his division…never once lost a match in his division…holds an FSU records for career wins with 144 and for career winning percentage (.973)…also hold the FSU record for single season winning percentage (1.000)..placed fifth in 2003 at the World Championships…crowned champion at the 2003 Pan American games.

One of the nations best quarterbacks of the time, Dilfer led Fresno State to back to back WAC titles, a 1992 Freedom bowl, and a 1993 Aloha Bowl…broke most of FSU's single season passing records in 1993 including touchdown passes, pass completions and yardage…broke an NCAA record for most consecutive passes thrown without an interception with 271…third team Associated Press All-America and WAC offensive player of the year…led the nation in passing efficiency with the third highest rating (173.1) in NCAA history…racked up 29 career starts, passing for 7,631 career yards, 53 touchdowns and a winning record of 20-9.. A Fresno native…holds the FSU record for stolen-bases and runs scored (207) and ranks second in career hits (287)…also led the NCAA in stolen bases for two consecutive years…his record for stolen bases (61) still ranks #4 as an NCAA's all time record…a lifetime 350 hitter, had a 29 game hitting streak, also an FSU record…led the Bulldogs to a 1988 college world series appearance, their first in nearly 30 years…named conference and FSU's male athlete of the year…Big West Conference Player of the Year in 1989…named first team All-American twice becoming the first player in FSU history to earn that honor…won a gold medal at the 1989 Soul Olympics as their starting center fielder…first round draft choice of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A Fresno native and FSU all time winningest pitcher with 31 wins and only 16 losses…set season and career records as a senior for complete games with 18 and 42 respectively…his record of 42 complete games is also an NCAA record…Hoover also set a school record for 18 victories…holds FSU records for career wins (44), strikeouts (411) and innings pitched (494) and season records for wins (18), strikeouts (25) and innings pitched (176 2/3)…first team All-American in 1984, named College Pitcher of the Year… set NCAA records for complete games (19)..named FSU male athlete of the year…finished his career with an 18-3 record and a 2.09 era, while also leading the nation with 205 strikeouts…. was a member of the 1984 Olympic Team…and a first round draft choice of the Baltimore Orials.

A Fresno native…went 32-9 with a 2.45 ERA and had 16 saves in three seasons…pitched 18 complete games which ranks him second all-time in NCAA Division 1 history…pitched 166 strikeouts ranking him fifth on FSU's single-season list...Golden Spikes Award Finalist in 1991… in 1991 he finished the season 16-2 with a 1.88 ERA and was named College Pitcher of the Year…first-team All-American and Big West player of the year…named Big West Pitcher of the year in 1991 when he lead the Bulldogs to a College World Series 5th place finish…Collegiate Baseball Magazine's National Player of the Year in 1991…NCAA Player of the Week…Fresno State team MVP…Fresno State's male Athlete of the Year…only pitcher in Big West history to earn first team all-league three consecutive times…first round draft choice of the Mets…36th pick overall.

Fresno State's first volleyball All-American and FSU's female athlete of the year, leading her team to the best finish in Fresno State history…ASICS/Tiger All-America second team and NorPac Co-Player of the year, All-Nor Pac Tournament and All-Northwest Region honors...became the first female player to ever have her jersey retired…three-time team MVP…holds spots in all 10 FSU career and season leader charts…season records include top 5 finishes in kills (488), service aces (72), solo blocks (47), assisted blocks (89) and defensive saves (155) including three of five FSU single game records…was a member of the U.S. National Team in 1985.

A Bakersfield native, Martell led the FSU women's team to their best season ever and their first post season tournament appearance ever in 1986..broke 14 school records including all time leader in scoring, field goals, field goals attempted, points, assists, steals, and free throw percentage…holds FSU season records in assists, field goals, free throw percentage and consecutive free throws…named Conference Player of the Year in 1987 and All-American three times…Academic All-American…PCAA Player of the Year and the first FSU female athlete to receive the highly coveted NCAA post graduate scholarship, graduating Magna Cum Laude…she was the third female and only the 7th FSU athlete to have her jersey retired.

Walter Marty
Men's Track and Field
1931-34

Walter Marty was one of America's premier track and field athletes of the 1930's in 1933. As a junior at Fresno State he set the world record in high jump with a leap of 6'8/1/2 inches. He was Fresno State's first NCAA champion winning the high jumping title in 1934. Later that year he upped his world record height by jumping 6'9''. Walter guided the Bulldog's to three consecutive conference championships and a sixth place finish. As the NCAA championships in 1934 he was a charter member of the Fresno State track and field hall of fame.

Dale Messer

The first bulldog to ever have his jersey retired…his yardage for rushing, receiving, and kick returning still ranks #5 in the FSU record books…as a senior he led the Bulldogs in rushing (811 yards), receiving (30 catches), punts, kick off returns, and points scored with 108 which is still an FSU record today...three-time All -Conference selection, three-time All-Coast honoree and two time All-American…led FSU to three straight conference titles throughout his career, rushing for over 2,000 yards and scoring 31 touchdowns…asked to play in the East West Shrine game…drafted by the 49ers

Third leading scorer of all time at FSU…holds the highest career total in FSU history for hitting 58% of his shots…was a major factor in the bulldogs winning 80% (102-25) of their games, two conference titles, and achieving national recognition while he was on the team…scored 22 points in the NIT championship game to help seal a bulldog victory…led the team to post-season play in all four years at FSU…was named all-PCAA first team in both his junior and senior years and a two-time All-American…first bulldog ever to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft

Wende Ward

1980-83

Led Fresno State to its first-ever Women's College World Series and second place NCAA finish in 1982. Had a 77-36 record and 0.61 ERA in four seasons and threw five of the first six no-hitters in school history. Wende Ward thrust the bulldog softball team into prominence in the early 1980's achieving the level of excellence that has kept Fresno State at or near the top of the rankings ever since. Her combination of dominate pitching and power hitting earned Wende four team MVP awards, two Fresno State female athlete of the year honors and first team all American selection. She established season and career records for strike outs, pitched 6 no hitters including two perfect games. Wende's jersey #19 was retired in 1987.

Was the first vaulter in U.S. history to prove that a 15-foot vault was not impossible by setting a national record-setting vault of 15'73/4'' that stood for fifteen years in…he was the first and only vaulter to ever gaurantee a 15 foot vault each time he competed indoors, outdoors, daytime, evening, and anywhere in the U.S…he cleared 15 foot vaults three times in one meet and on two different occasions making him the first vaulter ever to do so…he vaulted 15 feet or higher 43 times in his career with a bamboo pole…Was the first and only athlete in the world, in any event, to break the previous world's outdoor record 31 times…was the first and only athlete in any event to set 22 American stadium and auditorium records....recipient of the prestigious James E. Sullivan award given to the finest amateur athlete in America…selected and inducted into the Helms Athletic Hall of Fame, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Hall of fame, the Northern California Track Hall of Fame, and in 1974 was he was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
