FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State Men's Basketball has announced the promotion of longtime staff member Nate Leal to Assistant Athletic Director for Men's Basketball.
Leal enters the new role after serving eight seasons as the Bulldogs' Director of Men's Basketball Operations and begins his 15th season overall working with the Fresno State men's basketball program.
In his expanded role, Leal will oversee the administrative operations of the program under Head Coach Vance Walberg. His responsibilities include managing team travel and logistics, program budgeting, recruiting administration, community service initiatives, student-athlete needs, and other day-to-day operations. Leal will also support the coaching staff with scouting, game preparation and player development. The position also carries responsibilities related to NCAA, conference, athletic department and university rules and policies.
A longtime Bulldog, Leal began his career with the program as a student manager before becoming a graduate assistant. He was a member of the staff during Fresno State's run to the 2016 Mountain West Tournament championship and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearance.
After spending the 2017-18 season coaching at the high school level, Leal returned to Fresno State as a special assistant under former head coach Justin Hutson. In that position, he took on significant operational responsibilities, playing a leading role in the program's daily operations, community service efforts, team travel, practice coordination and administrative logistics.
Leal was promoted to Director of Men's Basketball Operations prior to the 2019-20 season and has since remained a central part of the program's day-to-day operations.
Leal earned both of his degrees from Fresno State, receiving a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching in 2015 before earning a master's degree in sport psychology in 2017.
